The 5 Women of Game of Thrones rocked the Emmy Awards
Not every woman from Game of Thrones made splash on the Emmys
red carpet this year. Lena Headey—who is heavily favored to win in her
category—was nowhere to be seen. But in skipping the ceremony
altogether, she’s in good company. Emilia Clarke was too busy filming to
join in the fun last year when the HBO show had its first
record-breaking win. In fact, it was Clarke this year who made sure that
even if Headey was absent from the red carpet, she wasn’t far from our
hearts.
Clad head-to-toe in a shimmering nude Atelier Versace ensemble (perhaps a throwback to her striking Season 6 scene), Clarke spoke with Vanity Fair on the red carpet about which character, other than Daenerys, she’d most like to play. Her answer? Cersei. Evil blonde queens have more fun. Elsewhere on the red carpet, Clarke talked about how “intense” it will be to say goodbye to everyone after Game of Thrones wraps forever in Season 8. But as she assures everyone, that’s still a ways away, and Daenerys has many more kingdoms to conquer (at least seven of them!) before we have to bid her farewell.
Meanwhile Maisie Williams decided to mix it up in a huge way on the red carpet, pairing dramatic green eyeshadow with funky fashion and even funkier hair. The poor girl had to play blind for most of Season 6, and Williams was ready to highlight the neglected feature tonight. Williams also paired her daring look with a brand-new matching tattoo she got with co-star Sophie Turner. Joking around on the red carpet, Turner said that the pair wanted to get tattoos before someone bumped them off.
The subtly tattooed date commemorates the day the pair were officially hired on Game of Thrones. Turner matcher her fresh ink with a Stark-ish braid, romantic Valentino dress, Forevermark jewelry, and Louis Vuitton shoes. It was quite the departure from the bold Vuitton ensemble she wore out the night before to get her pre-Emmys party on. I wouldn’t want to mess with that queen in the North.
Perhaps remembering the spoiler she let slip on the Oscars red carpet, Sophie kept her comments about Season 7 intentionally vague but did promise that it was “unbelievable” and that “fans are going to be really satisfied.” And while Gwendoline Christie usually favors long gowns, she chose to go with a short number that put her legs on full display. It’s not every woman who can pull off a bustle, but Brienne of Tarth is certainly not every women.
