Officials are investigating after a 4-year-old boy was recently thrown off a bridge into a river in Montesano, Washington.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Devonshire Bridge over the Wynochee River in Montesano last week after bystanders witnessed the boy being thrown off the bridge and called police.

The boy survived the fall. It was not immediately known if he suffered any serious injuries.
Brianna Jones, who witnessed the incident, told The Washington Post the child’s head almost hit a steal beam in the fall, and that he was screaming when he surfaced.
His mother, she said, tried to make it seem as if the whole thing was “fun.”
“We all started freaking out and yelling at her, ‘You can’t do that!” Jones told the Post. “She said, ‘He’s my kid, and it’s none of your business.’ If that happened out in the open, you can only imagine what’s happened to the kid behind closed doors.”
“You just don’t throw a kid off a bridge!” she added. “It made me so mad. … People like that shouldn’t have children.”
Deputies interviewed witnesses and the boy’s mother. Deputies said Saturday they’ve recommended the Grays Harbor Prosecutor’s Office charge the boy’s mother with reckless endangerment and another man with reckless endangerment and criminal trespassing.
All of the charges are misdemeanors, deputies said. Child Protective Services has also been notified of the event.
Kaylub Fawley posted video of the boy being thrown to his Facebook page on Thursday, writing, “This is what happens when some parents just don’t care…this is a woman me and all my friends witnessed letting a ‘stranger’ throw her 4 1/2 year old son of the bridge yesterday into the water for fun!!”
In an interview with The Post, Fawley explained that he made the footage public to inform others on the consequences of endangering children.
“I hope that mother gets what’s coming to her,” he told the newspaper. “I just want that child to be safe.”
